Higher Ed Pathways
Kurt M. Thiede has worked in higher education administration for over 40 years. His senior management responsibilities have included strategic enrollment planning, student recruitment and admission, financial aid, marketing communications, student life, intercollegiate athletics, and alumni relations.
Viewing enrollment management within the context of the prospect-student-alumni lifecycle, Kurt employs strategies and tactics that establish relational pipelines to build and maintain quality and diverse enrollments at the institutions he has served on staff and as a consultant. He collaborates with an institution’s leadership to create and implement solutions that address needs and interests specific to their situation.
Kurt’s consultancy comprises two specialties: His general enrollment projects range from operation audits to building a marketing communications stream that supports recruitment efforts to identifying ways to fully utilize institutional scholarship funds. With the Community College Pathways program, Kurt assists four-year institutions with establishing sustainable partnerships with community colleges; these educational pathways provide access to high-quality education for motivated students and help meet institutional graduation and enrollment goals.
Kurt graduated summa cum laude with a degree in Interdisciplinary Philosophy from Barrington College (now Gordon College) and received an MEd in Higher Education Administration from the University of Vermont. He attended the Institute of Educational Management, Harvard University Graduate School of Education, in 1992. He held leadership appointments for 18 years at Muhlenberg College and nine at Bucknell University. He has and continues to serve as an enrollment consultant to a variety of higher education clients.
Kurt and his wife, Laura, reside in and work out of Andover, Massachusetts.
Barbara Coward Enrollment Strategies
Barbara has been working with prospective students and MBA programs for nearly 20 years in a number of roles and is an internationally-recognized authority in graduate management recruitment.
After a career in corporate finance for globally-renowned brands such as American Express and Laura Ashley, Barbara transitioned to higher education where she recruited full-time, part-time, and executive MBA students from all over the world for business schools in the U.S. and U.K.
As a result, she offers in-depth knowledge on the search and decision-making process of prospective graduate management students.
This student-focused approach translates to proven digital marketing recruitment strategies that connect with candidates on a deeper level and provide competitive differentiation for enrollment growth.
Her expertise includes search, paid media strategies, content marketing, lead nurturing campaigns, and social media consulting.
Throughout each engagement, Barbara brings a passion in helping graduate programs improve recruiting results, pursue growth opportunities, and strengthen admissions yields.
In addition, she has gained a comprehensive understanding of the business school market and best practices as a result of following and analyzing digital marketing activities (social media and emails) of more than a hundred business schools worldwide. She is quoted as an industry expert in business school media and is a frequent blogger on graduate management digital marketing strategies. She has presented at EMBA Council, GMAC, and EFMD Conferences.
Barbara has a B.A. from Vassar College and an M.B.A. from the University of Bath School of Management in England.
With a son who is a senior in high school, Barbara is trying hard not to be a “helicopter” parent as he goes through the college search process. She has another son in 8th grade and enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, and quietly rooting for her hometown Boston sports teams while living in Baltimore.
